A composer who was the last hope for Russian Romanticism, known for his great works in piano concerti and orchestra. This is Sergey Rachmaninoff, born on March 20, 1873, in Oneg, Russia.

His father was a retired army officer, and his mother was the general's daughter. Sergey was supposed to become an army officer like his father, as that was his destiny, although his father lost the family fortune resulting in him abandoning Sergey and his family. Yet, his cousin Aleksandr, senses that Sergey might have music abilities so he sent him to the pianist Nikolay Zverev in Moscow to study the piano. Sergey owes it to Nikolay's discipline in teaching the piano as it made him one of the greatest pianists. He became a pupil at the Moscow Conservatory due to his general education and theoretical subjects in music.

Sergey graduated from the conservatory at the age of 19, his fame and popularity rose after the launching of two of his compositions them being: the Prelude in C-sharp Minor, on September 26, 1892, and his Piano Concerto No. 2 in C Minor, on October 27, 1901. His first one, the prelude, was always requested by audiences as it is what brought him his fame.

Some of his other famous works include:

1. Sonata for Cello and Piano in G minor, Op.19

2. 10 Preludes, Op.23

3. Symphony No.2 in E minor, Op.27

4.The Isle Of The Dead, Op.29

5. Piano Concerto No.3 in D minor, Op.30
